ISR
Infant Swimming Resource has taught "Self-Rescue"™ skills to more than
300,00 infants and young children and educated parents and medical experts nationwide on water safety techniques and proven instruction methods. To date, ISR has over 800 documented cases of children using ISR techniques to save themselves from drowning. In 17 states across the nation, including Arizona, drowning is the #1 accidental death in children under the age of 4. If this were a disease we all would be quick to find a cure. But drowning CAN be prevented.
ISR wants to educate on the many layers of protection for our children in and around the water. There is no better layer then adult supervision. Pool fences, alarms, self closing doors to our pools, 5 foot back door locks should all be a part of the layers. But when these layers fail, let our children be the last layer of defense. Learning the "Self-Rescue" skills that Infant Swimming Resource will teach them.

WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN
AQUATIC PROBLEM SOLVERS
6-12 MonthsAt this age your child is crawling and really starting to get quite active. This is the time for them to learn the survival floating skills. Your child will learn breath control and from a face-down position to rollback-to-float. This posture is a place for your child to rest and breathe comfortably for a varied amount of time or until they are picked up. These skills usually take about 4-6 weeks to master.

12 Months-6 YearsAt the age that your child starts to walk, their motor skill development has changed dramatically. The skills they learn at this stage is the swim-float-swim sequence. With this process the child learns breath control and the ability to turn over in the water to obtain an edge or step. Children will learn correct swimming posture, forward movement through the water, rollback-to-float, as well as rotating back into a face down position to continue to swim. This sequence is repeated until the child reaches safety or someone picks them up. These skills usually take 4-6 weeks to master.

ONE-ON-ONE 5 DAYS A WEEK 10 MINUTE LESSONS
Lessons are one-on-one with an ISR Instructor. This allows for me to focus totally on your child and their individual needs. All children are unique in their cognitive learning ability and personality. Because ISR lessons are student directed, each lesson is guided by the changing needs and learning levels of the child.
As you know as parents, consistency and repetition is the foundation of a child that is engaged in a learning process. Five day a week/ Monday-Friday lessons help to reinforce the "Self-Rescue" skills that your child is learning. Consistency is key to the success of the program and can determine the length of time it takes your child to complete the skills.
Lessons on average are approximately 10 minutes in length. The lessons are kept short to avoid muscle fatigue in your child. This seems like a short amount of time but this 10 minutes is dedicated to your child only and their body and muscles are solely focused on the skills they are learning.

REFRESHER LESSONS
It is recommended that students return every year to do 1-2 weeks of refresher lessons. Your childs growth will affect their center of gravity and how their sensory experience in the water will be. Children change physically as well as mentally and emotionally during the first 6 years of their lives. We want them to easily assimilate the transition that happens during their mind and body growth. ISR students never "forget" the skills they have previously learned but need to adjust to the new, more grown child they are becoming. Often times, children have had extented time away from the water because of season changes or availability of time spent in the water. Refresher lessons help to build the continued confidence students need in the water.
